Road Pricing... just another tax?

Is road pricing just another unnecessary tax?

What do our 'esteemed leaders' think they will achieve with this idea?

Facts have to be accepted... there are a certain number of vehicles on the roads, and that number is NOT likely to go down! In fact, the opposite is inevitable.

At present the main problem is that there are peak times for travel as in 'the school run' and 'commuting to work'... at these times there is insufficient road capacity to accommodate the volume of traffic. If public transport could efficiently, safely, reliably, and quickly take some of the pressure off private transport... or alternatively, car sharing schemes could be made an attractive alternative... then the worst of the problem could be alleviated!

The use of 'a carrot' rather than 'a stick' method of control is surely far superior. Also consider that the main problem is in cities, town centres and other urban rat-run situations.

Should those in rural situations pay for bad management of resources yet again? After all many facilities are closing down in rural areas... thereby meaning that more and more people have to visit the larger connurbations to get basic needs fulfilled. Just think of the hospitals, local schools, banks, and now post offices which have been, or are in the process of being, CLOSED.
